The name of this website is That Salad. And most of you reading this know why. If you don’t, you need to read this page before continuing.
As we were doing our weekly scanning, we ran across some photos that reinforced to me just how deep our traditions are ingrained in us.
Holiday and special occasion tradition:
That salad: on the table in that white Melmac serving bowl. The stuff was good then, and it’s good now!

Sully McDannold, RuthAnn Clark Magee, Jimmy Magee (hiding) and John Wheeler. Dinner at the apartment in St. Louis, 1961 or early 62.
More Tradition – the cake:
My first birthday (59 years ago) appeared in our post last week. Here it is again…
See that cake? Angel food. With that icing Dad always loved. (wink, wink) I wonder why Angel food cake has always been my favorite birthday cake…
Here is my 4th birthday. Angel food cake… Wasn’t I the cutest?
Here I am on my 30th birthday. Angel food cake. (This one was NOT from a box…)
See the Photo Gallery for this post for additional Angel Food Cake pictures…
This tradition: making time for family…
The previous pictures of That Salad also fit into this category – making time for family. My Dad’s brothers (above) always had a great time together!
I also had some of the best aunts and uncles in the world – these two aunts were my Mom’s sisters!
My Aunt RuthAnn & I hanging out…
And my Aunt Karen & I helping Sully build a house. I think Dad still has this blue wheelbarrow and probably that shovel, too!
Some other photos from this session:

Sully, Susan Wheeler, with the monkey that still lives in Sue’s guest room. (I saw it just the other day)
